Stone monuments for public and memorial spaces

A monument should preserve the meaning of the person or event it commemorates while belonging to the place where it stands. Jaksic Stonemasonry Workshop creates public, memorial, monumental and original stone monuments in collaboration with clients, artists, architects and institutions.

The gallery brings together figurative and abstract work, portrait busts, memorial markers and larger spatial compositions. Each project shows a different relationship between stone, sculptural language, inscription and public space.

A monument designed for a particular place

A public monument is seen from several directions and under changing light. Its height, silhouette, base and distance from the viewer determine how it is experienced. The idea therefore develops together with the position, approaches, surrounding buildings and the way people use the space.

The stone is chosen for the dimensions, form and intended finish. Portraits and figurative works require precise modelling, while abstract or symbolic monuments often depend on a clear relationship between surface, cut, text and void. The stonemasonry must support the artistic concept and the technical requirements of installation.

From the idea to installation

  1. Subject and location

    We consider who or what is commemorated, where the work will stand and who will encounter it.

  2. Concept and model

    Form, scale, inscription, base and relationship with the surroundings are developed.

  3. Stone and production

    Blocks and surface treatment are selected before work proceeds to the approved design.

  4. Transport and installation

    Dimensions, weight, access and preparation of the site are coordinated before installation.

Stonemasonry and sculpture in one composition

The workshop combines experience in stone with an original sculptural approach. Academically trained sculptor Lovre Jaksic creates portraits, figures and spatial compositions, while the workshop develops the stone, surface and production details.
